NJ Name Change Cost
Katherine O’Brien Law charges affordable, flat rate fees for legal name changes. Our pricing is as follows:
• $1,695.00 for an adult legal name changes
• $995.00 additional fee if contested (your name change is objected to)
Our name change fees are inclusive, meaning they cover all filing fees, publication fees, and service costs. We do not bill you for any other costs or expenses.
The fees associated with name changes in New Jersey can be quite high. Therefore, if you are shopping around for a New Jersey name change attorney, make sure you inquire as to whether or not the fees you are quoted are all-inclusive. Some name change attorneys will charge a lower flat rate fee, but then bill you for additional court costs and filing fees. The current New Jersey Superior Court filing fee for a legal name change is $250.00. Moreover, publication of your name change in a newspaper is required both before and after the hearing. Newspaper publication fees can be as high as several hundred dollars. In addition, you will need to serve the Petition and Order on various governmental agencies via certified mail, costing an additional approximately $8.00 per mailing.
At the Law Office of Katherine O’Brien, all of these costs are included in our fee. For uncontested name changes (meaning there is no objection) we charge a fixed fee of $1,695.00 to handle your name change in a professional and timely manner. Should your name change be objected to (which can happen in minor name change cases where one of the biological parents objects to the name change), we charge an additional fee of $995.00 to prepare a comprehensive legal brief in response to the objection.
The Law Office of Katherine O’Brien handles name change applications throughout the State of New Jersey, including in Gloucester County, Atlantic County, Burlington County, Cape May County, Camden County, Cumberland County, Ocean County, and Salem County.
